What to Do When Purchased Episodes and Reading History Cannot Be Transferred Between Webtoon Platforms
Moving from one webtoon platform to another rarely moves the episodes you paid to unlock, the virtual currency left in your account, or the point where you stopped reading. Before buying the same chapters again, determine whether you are dealing with an unsupported platform transfer or a recoverable problem inside the original service.
These are different situations. A cross-platform transfer means taking purchases from one company’s account system and placing them inside another company’s library. That is generally unavailable unless the platforms announce a formal migration programme. An account-recovery problem occurs when content previously purchased on the same service disappears after changing devices, using another login method, reinstalling the application, or switching regional or language settings.
The second problem may be fixable. The first usually requires keeping the original account for existing purchases and using the new platform for future reading.
Separate Platform Migration From Account Recovery
Paid webtoon episodes are normally licensed for use within the service where they were unlocked. They are not independent digital files that another application can import.
Manta’s terms state that its content is licensed rather than sold and that users receive a limited, non-transferable right to access it through the service. The same terms say that Gems can be used only by the account that purchased or earned them and cannot be transferred between accounts.
WEBTOON applies similar restrictions even within its own account system. Its support documentation says Coins cannot currently be transferred or merged between separate accounts. It also maintains different Coin balances for some language and operating-system environments.
If transfers are unavailable between accounts inside one platform, an unrelated platform has no automatic way to recognize the purchase history, payment currency, or episode licenses created by another company. The same email address, Apple ID, Google account, or social login does not turn two services into one shared library.
A missing library on the original platform requires a different investigation. WEBTOON notes that content and account information may appear to disappear when a user signs in through a different method, such as using Google instead of the email login attached to the original account. Language settings can also affect which Coin balance appears.
Before concluding that purchases have been lost, return to the original service and verify the exact login method used when they were made. Check email login, Apple login, Google login, Facebook login, and any other method supported by the platform. Two options that display the same email address can still lead to separate platform accounts.
Also restore the original language, country, and storefront settings. A title may be licensed separately in different regions or languages, and paid currency may be partitioned according to the environment in which it was purchased.

Protect the Original Account Before Changing Anything
Do not delete the original account while trying to move your library. Account deletion can remove the evidence and login connection needed to restore paid access.
Tapas states that unlocked episodes remain tied to the account as long as the user has not deleted or lost access to it. Even if a series is no longer available for new purchases, previously unlocked episodes may remain accessible through the account’s transaction history.
Manta gives users a limited recovery period after account deletion. Its current support documentation says a deleted account is deactivated for 30 days, after which reading history, preferences, and other data are permanently lost. Any remaining membership period is also abandoned and cannot be refunded after that point.
Keep the old account active until every purchased title has been checked. Update its recovery email, replace a reused password, enable any available account-security feature, and remove an unnecessary saved payment method. This preserves the library without leaving a dormant account exposed.
Open the library on the original platform and identify three separate categories: permanently unlocked episodes, temporary or subscription-based access, and free episodes that were never purchased. A chapter opened through a temporary free-pass programme may disappear after its access period ends even though a permanently purchased chapter remains in the account.
Manta, for example, distinguishes content unlocked with Gems from titles available through its membership library and temporary Free Pass system. Tapas similarly separates permanently unlocked episodes from Wait Until Free episodes, which are available for a limited period after unlocking.
This distinction prevents a normal expiration from being mistaken for a failed purchase transfer.
Prepare Proof Before Contacting Customer Support
A support request is easier to investigate when it identifies the account and transaction precisely. Begin with the platform account email or user ID and the exact login method used at the time of purchase. Record the title, creator, language edition, season, and episode numbers involved. Add the approximate purchase date, number of Coins, Gems, or Ink spent, and the payment receipt for the virtual currency when available.
Tapas provides an account-level record under Settings > Transaction History > Series. Its support page says this section lists the episodes connected to the user’s unlock history and instructs readers to contact support if previously unlocked series do not appear there. Save screenshots showing the empty library, locked episode, transaction history, error message, current login details, and application version. For app-store purchases, keep the Google Play or Apple receipt and order number. Tapas directs mobile users to the relevant store records when reviewing purchase history or payment problems.
A useful support message states what happened rather than asking the platform to investigate an entire account without context:
“I unlocked Episodes 42–55 of this series using Ink on approximately May 12. They appear in my Series transaction history, but the episode page now asks me to unlock them again. I am signed in through the same email login and using the same regional version. Please confirm whether the unlocks can be restored to this account.”
This wording tells support that the request concerns restoration inside the same platform. It does not incorrectly ask one service to transfer licenses to a competitor.
Request the Remedy the Platform Can Actually Provide

Support teams are more likely to resolve a case when the requested outcome matches the problem. For an account mismatch, ask them to identify which login holds the purchases or explain how to regain access to it. For a payment that completed without adding currency, request a payment reconciliation. For an episode that remains locked despite appearing in the account history, request restoration of the existing unlock. For a duplicate transaction, provide both receipts and ask for an adjustment.
A general request to transfer all purchases to another webtoon platform is unlikely to succeed because the receiving service does not control the original account or licensing records. Refund requests also need realistic expectations. Tapas states that unlocked episodes generally cannot be returned or exchanged and that in-app purchases are normally final. It may consider special circumstances individually, while purchases processed through Apple or Google can also be subject to those companies’ refund procedures.
Manta’s terms likewise state that unlocked content is final and cannot normally be returned or refunded unless applicable law requires otherwise. Its current refund guidance says Gem fill-ups and content unlocks are final, but users who cannot access purchased material should contact support so the service can investigate. A voluntary decision to move to another platform is usually weaker grounds for a refund than a duplicate charge, unauthorized transaction, paid chapter that never unlocked, or technical problem preventing access. Local consumer law may provide additional rights, so a platform policy should not be treated as overriding mandatory protections in every jurisdiction.
Before paying again on the new service, review How to Check Content Differences Between Adult and General Versions of a Webtoon. Two listings with the same title may represent different age-rated editions, translations, chapter divisions, or levels of editing. Repurchasing without checking the edition can leave the reader with overlapping chapters that are not actually identical.
Keeping Two Libraries Is Often the Least Expensive Solution
When old purchases remain accessible, the practical solution is usually to retain the original account as an archive and use the new platform only for future chapters.
Suppose a reader owns Episodes 1–80 on the original service and the new platform carries the same series through Episode 110. Buying only Episodes 81–110 costs far less than rebuilding the complete library. The inconvenience of opening two applications may be preferable to paying twice for 80 episodes.
Repurchasing becomes more reasonable when the old service no longer supports the reader’s devices, the application is closing, or the new edition offers a meaningful difference. A revised translation, uncensored edition, improved image quality, corrected chapter order, or added side stories can create value beyond consolidating the library.
Match the chapters carefully before buying. Platforms may count prologues, recaps, side stories, season notices, and bonus chapters differently. One service may divide a long original episode into two releases, while another keeps it as one.
Use chapter titles, opening previews, major story events, and season boundaries instead of relying only on numbers. If the old platform’s Episode 80 corresponds to Episode 83 on the new platform, beginning automatically at Episode 81 would lead to duplicate purchases.
Also verify whether the new listing is complete. A platform may carry only later seasons, exclude mature chapters, or omit side stories. The lowest episode price is not useful when important material is absent.
Back Up Reading Progress Separately From Purchases
Reading history is more fragile than paid access because it may be stored differently by each platform. WEBTOON states that reading history can be stored on the device and may reset after reinstalling the application or changing devices, even though account subscriptions remain available.
This means that a successful account login does not always restore the exact place where reading stopped. Platform updates, title removal, language changes, and account deletion can also make automated history incomplete. Maintain a separate record for long or unfinished series. For each title, write down the official name, original title, creator, platform, language or age-rated edition, last completed episode, highest permanently purchased episode, and the date on which the record was updated.
A spreadsheet can include one additional note for the final story event. “Episode 67 protagonist enters the northern city” is more useful than the number alone when another platform divides the chapter differently. Purchased status and reading status should have separate columns. A reader may own Episodes 1–100 but have completed only Episode 74. Recording only the highest purchased episode can cause dozens of unread chapters to be skipped after moving services.
Update the record after every reading session involving several chapters. For a few titles, a private note is enough. A spreadsheet becomes more useful when the library contains many platforms, translations, or ongoing series. Do not use full-page screenshots or extracted episode files as a substitute for this record. Official offline downloads are usually designed for temporary in-app access and do not function as independent, transferable copies.

Avoid Repurchasing Until the Account Problem Is Resolved
Several mistakes can turn a recoverable issue into unnecessary spending. Do not create another account before confirming that the original login cannot be restored. Do not delete an account to test whether a new one will display the purchases. Do not assume the same email means the same login route. Do not buy a chapter again merely because the application currently shows a lock.
Wait until support confirms whether the original unlock is present, missing, or attached to another account. Keep all receipts and screenshots until the case is closed. If the original service announces a shutdown or migration, follow its official instructions before the deadline. A formal transition may include account linking, continued access, currency-use deadlines, or exceptional refund procedures that are unavailable during an ordinary voluntary move.
The central decision is straightforward. Cross-platform purchase transfer is generally unavailable unless the companies provide an official migration process. Missing content on the same platform may still be recoverable through the correct login, account history, and transaction evidence. Preserve the old account, document every purchase, back up the reading position independently, and use the new platform only after confirming the exact chapter and edition from which to continue. This protects the value of earlier purchases without paying again simply to place every series inside one application.
